In 2019 I created a chromatic wood type font — called Cedric — as part of my Masters in Type Design (MResTD) at The University of Reading, UK. These letterpress prints are produced from the wood type blocks. This is a chromatic typeface, which means there are three separate blocks—each printed in a different ink colour—producing extra colours on the press through overprinting. Chromatic wood type was popular in the mid 1800s in the UK and America (see William H. Page’s famous colour catalog from 1874), however I have found no records that any were ever produced in Australia. So this is probably Australia’s first chromatic wood type font. And you can own a print of it! Prints are available in various colour schemes, or you can order your own colours.
