Handlettering Workshop – TAFE North Sydney
June 17, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
$110
Your tutor: Wayne Thompson
With an emphasis on doing rather than watching, we will introduce you to the world of expressive handlettering. We’ll plunge straight into brush-pen technique with inspiring examples and discussion. We will explore ways to fit words together, make creative joins between letters, learn how to do flourishing and look at examples of various handlettering styles. We will also look at the process of sketching and refining using tracing paper. You will start your own handlettered piece in which you work on your own word or phrase, with the opportunity to gain personal guidance from Wayne. You will go home with new techniques, inspiration and enthusiasm for expressive hand-made lettering.
EQUIPMENT: Please bring some brush pens (we recommend Tombow ABTs, available from Eckersleys Art Supplies, but suggest you avoid Copic brand) some graphite pencils, a ruler, a rubber and whatever tools you would normally draw with. Also bring a word or phrase you would like to produce on the day. Paper is supplied for you on the day, but you are welcome to bring a sketchbook.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Even though this class is hosted by TAFE, it is open to the general public – anybody can purchase tickets. Anyone student or professional in the creative industries will benefit from attending this class.
